In the pen one pair was at water hole, a second pair along SE fence, one ♂ near Eucalyptus E-9. May 18. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0915 Lone male in the pen running back and forth along fence in A-1, while a pair of birds flushed from weeks outside the pen, perched on the top for a moment, then flew off. Male in the pen gave few cow calls. Found no birds in trap or evidence of feeding there. 0950 Red ♀ by water pool, answering cow calls from outside the pen. Noted many fecal droppings on top of large instrument shelter and a few on small shelter (heights 6' and 3' resp.) May 19. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 1310. Checked Behavior Lab pen: lone male flew from W corner (A-1), othe birds remained in cover.
