W.J. Francis 1963 California Quail May 14. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. Off toward the side of the pen, Orange and 05 then dust-bathed for several minutes. The other pair were not seen up to 1620. May 15. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County 0820 Many cow calls all around Behavior Lab. Birds in pen not active except lone male, who may have been answering calls, although other birds calling close outside made it impossible to identify him as a caller. Calls including many "Cow!", some assembly, and a few spill, heard up until declining at 0900. 1915 Two pairs and Red ♂ in the W. corner of pen scattered as I approached. After about 5 minutes Green & Beach fed, Green ♂ took water, and the pair completed. Eventually all 3 pairs were feeding in the pen. Orange and 05 were observed copulating. 038 and Yellow ♂ generally stayed at a little distance, and Red ♂ stayed in a far corner. At 1950 Yellow ♂, and a few minutes later 038 flew into
