Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. proximity to Black. 0644 Third pair of bird feeding in E-9. 0652 One of the pairs in the east corner moved to E-1 with the 3 birds there. Red F ran by both 53 with no reaction; then a next close approach was chased by both in succession. The closer in each case took only a few steps with head lowered, while Red responded by running off rapidly several feet. 070 More calls from outside, and Red F again responded by flying to top of pen. A moment later 059 also flew up, then rejoined the rest of the group in the grass. Red F then gave a series of calls - modified "assembly", with first two notes repeated one to three times, followed by the final "Cow!" separated by a pause, and stressed. 0715 Red F ceased calling and ran across pen to where other birds had been, then resumed calling in C-1. May 3. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0930 all seven quail together in the east corner, then along fence when I entered pen to construct water pool. The dust bath
