California Quail
May 1. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.,
outside, with single male
running along fence excitedly.
1915 Green & and Black & saw
to N corner, where she also
engaged in 'fence-running'. Heard
a 'Squill' call but could not be
sure of source. Third pair is
resting motionless in E corner (E-10).
1925. Looked outside the pen for
visiting quail - there were two pairs,
who appeared only a little disturbed
as I watched them from 50 feet, and
walked slowly away. Within the
pen, the 3 birds in A-5 were
disturbed and moved out of sight
in thick grass & bur clover.
Pair still in E-10, & in Yellow.
1929 Green & Black ran rather rapidly
to center of pen and began feeding.
Two pairs in E-10, one pair moved
away from pen corner and & & flew
up into Eucalyptus. 1933 The & of
this pair walked into the base of
the Eucalyptus, as Red & came into
the center of the pen. Green and
Black then moved to E-9, and at
1935 the & hopped into lower branches.
1936 83 & flew to top of this shrub. The
other three & still feeding in ground.
