W.J. Francis 1963. 57. California Quail April 29. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. feeding in a group for a few minutes, two previously treated pairs, plus 03♂ with Yellow♀. 1939 Green + Black copulated, and as Green stepped from Orange ♂ pushed him from about 10 feet distance and bumped him with his body. Red♂ feeding separated from other, and was chased when another male approached him. 1945 Orange♂ and 05♀ feeding in North corner near Red♂ (who kept his dis- tance, but even then was chased once by Orange), and "dust" falling in D-1. Orange approached 05♀ once and placed a foot on her back, but she straightened up and both moved off feeding after a moment. By 1950 all pairs had retreated into cover and Red♂ was patrolling the NW fence. April 30. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0825 In Behavior Lab, one male flew from grass inside fence to a perch on the fence wire where he gave assembly call. About 5 birds
