Feb.25 (cont.) grass clumps about 5 feet
out from the edge of the brush, flying
only a few feet back into the brush.
March 4 Hastings Reservation Monterey
County, Calif. 0655 Flushed small covey in
draw in back of Davis house, at
edge of chamise brush (lower side)
in small grassy patch. Birds flew
up and then down into brush.
0700 At edge of chamise could hear birds
"talking" not far inside brush patch.
March 5. Hastings Reservation, Monterey
County Calif. 0610 Heard single
call from trees in back of Davis
brooke, followed by "talking" from
within trees where birds where
apparently roosting. 0618 Began
to hear birds flying, either dis-
turbed or leaving roost. By 0630
no further sounds of birds in trees.
0745 Heard several calls while eating
breakfast: some birds feeding just
outside house (out of sight). Noted four,
2 singles, one pair, moving down
slope toward grassy field. 0752 In
front (downslope) of Davis house, one
male flew from lower to higher perch
