April 19. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.,
deal in N corner, with neck
feathers pushed backwards some
missing, and skin of left side
of neck torn open.
April 21. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda
County. 1730 All seven birds in
a group in E corner, running
along fence when I entered
pen to check rain gage.
April 22. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.
0840. Six quail in Belairin half
flew from mixed for clover and
grass in E.6 in back of instrument
shelter when I approached within
less than 10 feet. The seventh
( & with injured wing ) ran to the
east corner, and the other six
soon ran & flew to the same
locality. All well franced,
no pairing or aggression.
At 0852 Flushed a covey of
about 20 birds alongside Grizzly Peak Blvd,
Opposite Pine Grove picnic area, in
Eucalyptus grove with thick undergrowth
predominantly grasses.
