california condor Eben McMillan 16 December 1963 I drove to Ian's home at 7:00 a.m. and immediately thereafter left for Berkeley, riding with Starke Leopold to Hayward where I transferred to Ian's car; he and May McMillan having followed us here. Ian and I were at Berkeley and the University of California Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at 1:00 p.m. We spent the afternoon at this institution discussing our condor findings with Dr. Alden Miller and Carl Buckheister, President of the National Audubon Society who had come from New York for this meeting as well as a projected meeting with Wildlife and Range Technicians of the U.S. Forest Service in the Government Building at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Bill Goodall accompanied Mr. Buckheister. Mr. Buckheister desired a thorough briefing on all facets of the condor research project up to the present time due to his not having been on the ground, nor having been in a position to discuss these problems and other findings, since the project began, with us or Alden Miller. Thus the afternoon was so spent. At 4:30 p.m. Carl Buckheister, Ian and myself drove to San Francisco and had dinner at the Drake Wilshire Hotel during which time we further briefed Mr. Buckheister on the condor research projects findings. Ian and I stayed at this hotel for the night while Mr. Buckheister left us at 8:00 p.m. for the Pacific Union Club where he was staying during his visit San Francisco.
