Cholame Flats P.376 California Condor Eben McMillan 14 October 1963 While on the Cholame flats Northwest of Cholame Today from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. I saw only one bird of Buzzard size, or larger, in the air. The day was warm and balmy with a gentle West breeze blowing in the afternoon. The one bird I did see was circling moderately high over the highway about one mile south- East of the Cholame Ranch headquarters. Jet planes passed low down the Cholame valley on two separate occasions as I was in this valley today. These planes, flying at high speeds might discourage large birds from circling over these areas. No dead livestock were observed on the Cholame flats.
