Santa Barbara Ventura P-365 California Condor Eben McMillan 5 October 1963 The sky was somewhat overcast, a brisk west wind was blowing and it was cool as we drove down highway 101 from Paso Robles to Santa Barbara and Ventura. At 9:20 A.M., seventeen buzzards were observed rising up out of some Oak trees that grow about one quarter mile west of the highway, at a point one mile north of Atascadero, San Luis Obispo County, California. These buzzards were continuing to circle when we last saw them. At 9:30 A.M., ten plus, buzzards were noted circling in a very scattered group about one mile west of Santa Margarita, S.L.O. County, California. These buzzards too were still circling when last seen over this same area.
