California Condor Elca McMillan 27 June
There is strong indication that this is that same bird
and that it is remaining in this area to feed or else it
was hatched somewhere nearby, and is still a resident.
Carl Krofoud identified this young condor as between
one and two years old. He felt it probable that the
adult condor we saw on two occasions, this morning,
could have been one of the parents of this young bird,
that there still remained some family ties between
them.
The young condor after circling high while drifting
across the river to the east side of the valley then
returned and circled above the sharp carcass that
was already being visited by one Turkey Buzzard
that had returned to feed on it and several more
Buzzards were circling above in the air. The
young condor circled above this location for
about 10 minutes then gaining altitude drifted
down to the Southwest and passed from view.
a stiff, cool, west wind blew most of the day -
The air was very clear and the sun bright. Visibility
was excellent.
The young condor was first seen at 2:40 P.M. and
last passed from our view at 3:20 P.M.
