Page 69 Continued 22 may-1963 Learned Jack Gains works during his off hours for a Mr. Harter, of Fillmore, who has a Farm-machinery business in Fillmore, and through this business sells trail-bikes. Jack Gains has nothing but praise for Trail-bikes. Mentioned that the one he now owns was given to him, by this Mr. Harter, for Gains activities Selling these Machines. Gains also mentioned that this Mr. Harter, has, for several years, had a Cattle lease for 50 Cows in the Bucksport area in the Condor refuge corridor, as well as on the wildlife refuge. Gains mentioned having some trouble with this Mr. Harter, who he found at his Cow Camp near Bucksport, with a big fire in the center of his Cattle corral there, and a crowd of friends who Mr. Harter was entertaining. Mr. Gains reproached Mr. Harter for having the fire and Mr. Harter quite huffy. But Mr. Gains remarked to Dan and I that he and Mr. Harter are good friends now, in fact Gains now works for Mr. Harter. No birds being seen and the fog prevailing- at 2:45 P.M., and returned to Fillmore and the Gaines' homer where Dan and I took my pickup and drove up the Sespe to the Maple Creek Guard Camp of the U.S. Forest Service where we cooked our supper and retired for the evening. food
