Gymnogyps californianus June 13, 1976 Hopper Canyon, Calif. 8:05, apparently all settled again - at least 1 adult crooked flat - 2 in Near Roost Tree 4 (2, 4, 2, 4, 5) 4 in next tree downhill; 12 uphill from the fruit in Near Roost Trees. 8:10, 2 still perched near foot of Rock Ridge as earlier (1 flat on perch). 8:17, one, then others, took off 4 at 8:20 at least 10 carders soared over Big Meadow and Rock Ridge areas. One or 2 sighted in Near Roost Trees. 8:24, some glided out over Sandstone Mesa; at least 7 still perched in Near Roost Trees. 8:26, 7 scattered for about 1 mile at rim level over head of Big Meadow. 8:30, with, exception the 5+ lowest perch- ed birds have taken off - the remaining one, fam- ily crooked much, may be an imm... 8:32, 4 circ- led 200' over N. Crundell Ridge - more soaring over Big Mdw.. 8:37, about 6 scattered from over Cedar Cliff to Spring Mdw. - 5~+ soared from the Near Roost Trees area. 8:42, 5 still perched in trees around Big Mdw. - 1 step Flat Ps. 4 fricing over North Slope. 8:48, the 4 soared over North Point, then descended over North Slope again - one shared another down. Several returned to over Big Mdw. - at least 7 soared thru. One remained on Flat Ps. (8:50). Only 1 imm. + 1 ad. all perched in Near Roost Tree, + 4 soaring over Big Mdw. - one adult landed on branch of Near Roost Tree. 8:55 - 8 soaring low over Big Mdw.; I saw 3 land
