Gymnogyps californianus June 12, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Calif. occasionally did a carrion take a tug - just stood around mainly. 4:22, 11 carrion on ground within 50' of carcass but only 1 raven feeding. An min. landed in the green walnut tree near the carcass, displacing a turkey vulture from its perch there. Breeze absent - air clear. The carrion stand inactive near the calf. 4:25, one adult sturge at belly, shaking the whole carcass, pulling back, neck in line with back . 6 other carrion stand within: 10' but apparently not interested in feeding. A turkey vulture landed at carcass 4 3-4 carrion loun ded away from it. One standing carrion 50±' from carcass lunged at another with bird the of other took off. One adult perked at a raven - which flew off a few feet. 4:31, arrow- er walks unmolested among the carrion; 2 vultures stand 8±' from carcass (4 carrion) un- perurbed. An adult chased a 3(?)yr. min. up to slope 15±', then down, the min. then flying 30±' downhill. 4:33, counted 10, 5 adults, at calf - still only 1 adult feeding. A 3(?)yr. min also fed briefly. 4:37, 6 perched in Near Rarest Trees + 4 in tree SE of Big Meadow, 4 one adult in Saddle P's. - at least 8 at calf so 19 minimum. 4:38, the min. poeking
