Gymnogyps californianus June 12, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Calif. Flat Ps., 4 adult stop on adjacent green Ps. The 10 near Big Meadows as before. Retrogressing - the big lunch was at the carcass only 10 or 15 minutes & many apparently did not eat - there must be much meat left, but why don't at least the ravens & buzzards go for it? If food is close at hand, apparently the birds are con- tent not to leave the area all day (that is, no long flights). 3:30 - 1 adult 4 min. on Arundell Ridge (Flat Ps. 4 adjacent), 4 the 10 near Ridge perched as before (1 adult 4 1 min. crowd- ed flat). Breeze light, sky clear, not hot (75° maybe). 3:45, an min. was circling near Cast Rock Points. An adult, crop bulging, landed 30' above the youngster which was "fed" this morning. The youngster pumped its wings loosely a few times. 3:50, at the calf, 3 turkey vultures were feeding. In Near Racist Trees, apparently an adult 4 min. had exchanged trees, 4 one adult was 10' higher than formerly - otherwise no change. The "fed" youngster worked up to about 20' below adult by 3:55, 4 another min. was on level with adult 100' away in another tree. The latter min. was off, 4 2 adults had landed 15' above the perched adult there by 3:58 (3 adults 4
