Gymnogyps californianus June 12, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Cal. T. 1:32, a second adult was beside the one on Near Roast tree, crouched flat. An adult swooped in to land on that branch - both adults took off downhill; we landed in a dead Lo, 250 yds. downhill, about 6 from an inform. that tree. 1:35, in Near Roast trees, I saw - adult 4 min. in Near Roast Tree same in next tree downhill, 2 adults in the same tree 200 yds. further downhill + 1 min. about 100 yds. from that - so 4 adults + 4 mins. (+ the "fed" youngster). 1:45, the 8 perched as before. 2 p.m., one adult circled near the lookout (still at 2:07). then Perched birds as before except instead of 2 adults in 1 tree, now 3 adults in 3 trees, + a second min. in lowest tree. One of the 3 low adults took off downhill & glided low over Arundell Ridge area. One adult was crouched flat on its perch. About half the birds faced the sun, the rest not. 2:30 - the 10 perched as before (4 ad, 6 min.) - same at 2:45 (very quiescent birds). I also saw - 2 on Flat Ps. + 1 adult land there, an min. try to land there + 2 adults on Saddle Ps. - so 9 min. plus 7 adults. Apparently nothing doing at Cardy Falls. Endnote - I have watched that area much today + visibility is good. 3 p.m. - Arundell Ridge had still 2 adults on Saddle Ps, adult + min. atop
