Gymnogyps californianus June 12, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Cali. 6th carbor (adult) perched in the tree with 5 already. 12:30, 11 perched as before, 1 (from tree with 3) gave (to other tree?); now at carcass. Two min. 4 1 adult crunched flat. Breeze light to fair. By 12:40, 3 had left Near Boot Tree; I saw 4 in air (3 adults, 1 min.). 12:45, 7 perch- (2 ad.) + in air. 12:55, 5 were about 500' over Arundell Ridge & a 6th. over North Slope - these scattered soon. 1:00, only 4 perched now; 2 min. 4 an adult in about 200 yds. N. of carcass in one tree & the "fed" youngster (standing now). 1:00, I saw an adult low over Rock Ridge, feet down, crop bulging - it rose to 450 ft' level, then descended & landed in Near Boot Tree at 1:09. 1:15, this adult, 1 min. in tree where 6 were, & the "fed" youngster were only perched carbor visible. By 1:20 two min. joined the 1st adult in Near Boot Tree, & an adult landed in another Aspen tree Near tree. I saw one soaring over White Cliffs. Recollecting - it was about 1 hour from time adult finished feeding to time it "fed" the 2nd youngster. I left carcass at 7:35 - condor at it at 10:10. Adult perched close never left the vicinity before going to the food - the birds' seeing we put it out had apparently no effect. None evi- dence of adults feeding immature to food.
