Gymnogyps californianus June 12, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Glif. another about 20' downhill, stopped, then another 20'; then galloped back to the carcass. The chased bird walked uphill to the carcass again. It was attacked by another vulture, then walked 10±' downhill (suddenly?). 10:35, the adult feeds much more "luminous-like" than the juveniles. Latter are slow, sallying, & never look about for danger. Nearly always the juveniles stood opp- osite to adult at carcass Ad. 10:38, adult ceased feeding & stood. 10:39, adult took off & glided into S. Canyon it appeared. Perched adult as before. 10:40, 2 min. at carcass & 1 about 15' uphill (probably always the same one - appar- ently he never gets a bite). 10:47, 2 turkey vult- ures perched within 10' of the carcass - no reaction. 10:48, 1 carder feeding, 2 walking about in the grass disinterestedly. The feeder stood atop the carcass, then on ground at aval area. The vultures walk away from the carders when the latter move - appar- ently the vultures have not eaten a bite either. 11:01, I saw an adult slight stop cliff on S. side of Big Cove, & another in a path hole below Whiteworth ledge, & saw another circling there. 11:05, 2 min. at car- cass; the other walked about 20' uphill, then after 15±sec. walked slowly down - two vultures walk- ed out of its way.
