Times for 7 June all 15 minutes late - subtract 15 ask Gymnogyps californianus June 7, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Calif. word Pyramid D.O. At 10:50 I saw one adult on Flat B2 - it was still there at 11:15 when I arrived at Pyramid D.O. At 11:15 I also saw one adult perched on top long branch of Near Root Tree, 6' out from trunk, standing quietly, facing S. Cool fair SW breeze; visibility fair. 11:39, the 2 perched as before; I had dis- covered no others. 11:55, the one on Flat B2 was gone though one (same?) was atop a green B2, about 200 yds. further E. About 12:15 the adult left Near Root Tree, 4 3 minutes later the one left its Arundell Ridge perch. I could spot no others so at 12:30 left hiked toward Hopper Mtn. Hiked on Hopper Ranch trail to above Hopper Ranch, thence over the ridge to W. to Turner Oil Co., arriving about 2:15. I saw no carcasses on the way. Pete Legan told me that a day or two after Sid Peyton laid out the cayate carcass at Whiteacre Bluff, Vernon Keene saw about 15 or 16 condors there. I believe that such large numbers at a small carcass indicate cater hunger. Pete also told me that in the winter of 1943 (?) the snow was waist deep at Turner Oil Co. after one storm - this was the worst snow in at least 16 years that Pete has lived there. Another heavy snow, knee deep, occurred the winter 2 men froze to death in Hopper Canyon.
