Gymnogyps californianus
Tulare Co.,
Tile Indian Reservation,
September 24, 1950
about 10 a.m. heard and saw a condor soar 2000' above
us and soon away down the canyon. Probably adult
leaving to forage; perhaps kept from chick by us. We left.
El told me that 3 condors were seen near his house
a few days ago.
October 12, 1950. Card from Elen McMillan tells of
visit to the Big Tree nest the Thursday before Oct. 10 (letter
dated Oct. 10). No sign of young condor. Loggers, including
Rauch, had seen no strangers about. Much more droppings
under tree than on September 24, 50. Youngster probably
stayed in tree to October 1 or later. El could not
find the young bird in 1 hour of searching.
