Gymnogyps californianus September 13, 1950. Tule Indian Reservation, Tulare Co. dark gray. Tree about 175' high, I judge. September 15, 1950. Letter from Rozwell C. Welch (Sept. 8, 1950) tells of seeing 10 cormorants about 10 miles east of Patterson, about 2 miles NE of Success, on Sept. August 19. Two at same place August 18. September 13, 1950 Shandon, Calif. Elen McMillan told me that on Sept. 12 he saw 4 cormorants over his house. He had heard earlier report of 5 being seen by a man named Davies at Annette. Mrs. Dave Rambo saw 5 on water trough south of Cholame Ranch about July 27. September 14, 1950. Cholame, Calif. On way back to Hastings Reservation, looked for cormorants at (D.S.T.) Cholame Ranch from 9:50 to 10:20 a.m. None seen. About 500 cattle & several old carcasses on Cholame Flat. Turkey multivus (10±) and ravens (5±) present there. September 24, 1950 Tule Indian Reservation, Tulare Co. With Elen McMillan visited the cormorant nest, arriving about 8 a.m. (Standard time). The young bird now perched on a branch about 3" in diameter, about 20' directly below the nest hole. Some whitewash on ground under bird but I could find no bones or pellets. Measured height of nest hole as 95' from base tree by taping base-line and taking vertical angle of 45°. Practically everyone absent from logging camp today.
