3336 Times Daylight Saving Gymnogyps californianus April 29, 1948 Mr. Simmler, San Luis Obispo C. information. The cattle men in general knew of condors & were mildly interested in them, but apparently they paid little attention to birds. I looked about for condors occasionally until about 2 p.m., but saw none. In the late afternoon visited Painted Rocks. Saw no stocks to speak of. Elb said that cultivation in Carrizo Plains has increased tremendously since about 1970 - (get figures to check this, if possible). April 25, 1948 Beartrap Canyon, San Luis Obispo C. With Elb & Don McMillan and families, drove into lower Beartrap Canyon. Donald McMillan & I hiked to a hill from where we could watch the top of McChesney Mtn., Beartrap Canyon & part of Marting Canyon. At 8 a.m. we saw turkey multitrees perched quietly. About 8:45, I was watching for condors with telescope & binoculars. Clear, calm, warm day. We saw no condors by about 11 a.m., so Don & I descended to canyon & joined the others higher up the Beartrap Canyon. None saw any condors tho we saw golden eagles above McChesney Mtn. Apparently no condors roosting here now. We left about 3 p.m. & returned to Elb's ranch. Some stocks and fair feed conditions on La Panga Ranch near the condor roost areas. Elb told me that about 3 or 2 or 3 years ago a man at a ranch on Carrizo Plains (W. side near Wells place) told him he had run over two condors with
