information. The cattle men in general knew of condors &
were mildly interested in them, but apparently they paid
little attention to birds. I looked about for condors
occasionally until about 2 p.m., but saw none. In the
late afternoon visited Painted Rocks. Saw no stocks to

April 25, 1948 Beartrap Canyon, San Luis Obispo C.
With Elb & Don McMillan and families, drove into
lower Beartrap Canyon. Donald McMillan & I hiked to a hill
from where we could watch the top of McChesney Mtn., Beartrap
Canyon & part of Marting Canyon. At 8 a.m. we saw turkey
multitrees perched quietly. About 8:45, I was watching
for condors with telescope & binoculars. Clear, calm, warm
day. We saw no condors by about 11 a.m., so Don &
I descended to canyon & joined the others higher up
the Beartrap Canyon. None saw any condors tho we saw
golden eagles above McChesney Mtn. Apparently no
condors roosting here now. We left about 3 p.m. &
returned to Elb's ranch. Some stocks and fair feed

place) told him he had run over two condors with
