Gymnogyps californianus
December 29,1947 Hopper Canyon Ventura Co.
Canyon, slope at 100' altitude. At 11:45 one was
circling over Wooly Canyon & another about 1 mile south
over the ridge, both adults. About 12:00 I saw an
adult & a dark imm. soaring over head of Wooly,
We had made quite a rocket shooting quail in the
canyon. I hiked toward top of Hopper Mtn. & at about
12:15 saw 2 adults in 1 dead Ls. & a dark imm.
in another (adjacent) in highest dead Ls. on South
Ridge. At about 12:40 still there, 3 to 3 ravens were
in same trees, sometimes above, below, or at
same branch as cadors without notable section.
Two soared over Arundell Ridge, high, at some time.
About 2 p.m. I again saw 2 over the slope to
N. of the ranch house, & again about 3:30 when
we returned to the ranch house. Still cool (perhaps
45°F.) with fair E. breeze. Mrs. Percy thought the
condors unusually frequent over the ranch canyon
the past few days (because of good E. winds?).
February 19,1948 Hopper Ranch Ventura Co.

on the ranch. There had been a storm bringing
about 2" of snow and sleet and rain about
February 5, and cold weather for several
