Gymnogyps californianus
December 27, 1947 # Gorman, Calif.
½ mile east of the highway 99). It soared S. about
1 mile & joined another condor ¼± mile west of
the highway. The two circled for 3± minutes
then bore E. across (1000±' above) 99 again. One
disappeared to E. behind a hill, the other return-
ed to the circling spot (12:25). Two turkey
vultures had circled beneath them. Day very
clear with a fair breeze from S & SW. Reason-

the Ridge Route. San Joaquin Valley was fog
filled yesterday & today. At about 4 p.m. we
arrived at Wappler Bowl & visited with Lore &
Reith Percy. They said that they occasionally saw 1 or 2
condors over the ranch, that the children had seen

this year as if a condor had died there. Percy's
had lost about 3 cattle within the last month
in the canyon east of the house, & that Lore had
seen a couple of condors in the trees near that area
one day (possibly fed on the carcass). This has
so been a dry year so far - no green grass high
enough for cattle feed yet. They Percy's had
cut, their cattle herd drastically to save feed,
and even trucked in hay for the cattle. Percy's
