Gymnogyps californianus
June 6, 1976
Nr. Whiteacre Pk, Calif.
500' S. of condor nest. The condors twisted & descended
when pursued so that they were once again at nest
level. At 11:16 the full cropped condor landed on the
same perch point, street - Puffy Cheche circled &
rose until at 11:20 it was above the rim. The raven
pair set out to W. crooning loudly & flapping rapidly
and attacked a golden eagle. The eagle
came toward the cliff in a fast glide & landed
in a pothole near me, passing about 300' over 4
600' S. of condor. Apparently the condor was not
disturbed. The eagle flew off to W. again, still
pursued by the ravens. At 11:55 the condor stood
quietly as before. Perhaps it takes some time to prepare
newly acquired food for the chick (perhaps 6 or 7
cuebs old a lais at this storie of year). The adult moved
& occasionally faced a different direction. Still there at 1 p.m.,
at cliff edge, facing in. 1:15, the adult craned flat on
cliff edge, facing in on the 4-5' wide shelf. Very light white-
work on that point & 2 other nearby - not enough to
make one suspect more than an occasional roosting
place. Adult again stood about 1:35. 2:08, the adult craned
flat at cliff edge again. Their bird apparently found
food, fed, & returned between 9:30 & 11:09. About 2:55
the perched adult again stood. Breeze today has been
mainly light, from S.W. - less breeze than yesterday
but slightly cooler. At 3:06, perched adult was gone.
