Gymnogyps californianus August 31/1946 Nr. Porterville, Calif. and saw perhaps 50 turkey multures over the valley. At about 10:15 at Richardson's house I saw about 6 multures & an immature condor circling over the dry oat hillsides about 1/4 mile SE of the house, about 10:20 I saw two 2 in air there. At one time I saw 1 perched on hillside near a rock anterapping there. I talked with the bird man, Mr. Birchfield. He said his son Jim (16 yrs.) worked at squirrel pasing this year,& saw large multures with white patches which were probably condors. He first saw these about 1/2 mile E. of the power line which is about 2 miles E. of Richardson's house. Later he worked east of Cyster & saw them there - up to 6 sure at once - and seemed to hang around especially early & late. There were seen during August & reportedly seen up to a week ago. About 11:00 I saw 2 condors, adult & imm., circling at 300' about 3/8 mile S. of Richardson's house over the grassy hills (10+ turkey multures also). Birch- field thought they probably had been pausing west. His son had seen the condors in Yoleal (sp.? )Valley on the Gill Ranch on the road from Cyster
