otford 3290 Gymnogyps californianus July 23,1946 Fillmore, Calif. Pemberton Rocks & saw several condors, Sid P. told me, Ranger Lyda & Gene Percy were riding on Hopper Rim & in Big Meadow today - they saw no condors but did see a bear. July 24,1946 Nr. Hopper Mtn., Calif. Cd Harrison arrived at Fillmore about 12:30. We did the calf at Sid Rayton's & drove to Hopper Rim, arriving about 3 p.m. Air hot, sky completely overcast with alto-stratus. We repaired the blind in Big Meadow & left calf equipment there, then went to head of canyon to camp. We saw no condors though searched with binoculars - visibility poor because of haze. July 25,1946 Hopper Canyon, Ventura Co. Cd Harrison got in the blind in Big Meadow, & I set the calf out about 150' from blind on the open slope. Wired calf down at chest & groin, & cut belly & ribs open longitudinally. Carcass was stiff now and weighed about 70 pounds. Warm, no clove, but considerable haze so visibility poor. I left calf at 7:20 & went to Pyramid Lookout to watch. From there I could see the blind but not the par- case. I could not spot any condors roosting. Occasional light E. breeze by 8 a.m. By 9 a.m., sky No cumulus, occasional fair E. breeze - no condors or buzzards seen so far. Water at Carson
