Gymnogyps californianus
July 21, 1946 Nr. Frazier Park, Calif.
of the "Escapura" (sp?) - Salt Creek area - he saw 4 condors
perched on high cliffs. Last time the weather he saw only 3,
he said, so figured I was shot. They were not there in
winter but came in in spring, he said. Once he
found a dead one (about 10 yrs. ago) which he thought was
shot. I doubt any of this information is accurate but
record it anyway, Ck. I phoned Rex Coppennall, lookout
at Tejon Lookout (county - Borman). He thought he had
seen a condor there once this season. Cuddy said he had
read an article (in a paper) by Condon (Jerry?) once which
said that condors wintered in the lower slopes. I drove
to Liebre Mtn., near Sandberg's & talked with L.A. C. fire
woman there; he had been here several years but took
no interest in birds. He thought he had seen 1 or 2 occ-
asionally. At the weather station were two men & wife
of one; they had been here 2 years but had seen
no condors. One gets a good view of the W. end of
Antelope Valley & S. side of Tehachapis from here
(Bald Mtn.). The Bailey Ranch is now G.E. Kinsey's road.
Apparently only cattle are run there, & but I saw
only a few.
