Gymnogyps californianus July 18, 1946 Bakersfield, Cal. Rlipstein or Clint McCrae (sp?) would know, he said (Bakersfield cattleman). Only one man - Rodnick (sp?) now sends sheep to the Cuyama area that he knows of - cotton & potatoes now cover much of the former sheep grazing grounds. As to sheep move- ments; generally the transient flocks winter on the west side of the San Joaquin (Coalinga), then move east to alfalfa & green feed area in Lompoc valley, then to the desert. On San Emidio Ranch, Blackie Morgan, formerly, knows the country well & is a good observer. To get in the ranch, one must have permission of Mr. Hugh Allen of Bakersfield. Latta said the Kern Co. Land Co. people in general were very uncooperative & hard to get along with & that Dumble was the only one who ever gave any help. The Fickerts who own most of Bear Mtn. are also no- toriously uncooperative. I do I left cards watching instructions for Blue Mtn. Lookout at the State Div. of Forestry office. Called at Breakman District Ranger U.S.F.S. office & found that they had sent a letter to us dated July 15 telling of about 15 carders being seen by ranger Droge & a Mr. Dean near Round Mtn. this month; 41 seen from Oak Flat Lookout. I drove them to Oak Flat Lookout. The relief lookout was on & knew little of carders but thought he had seen a few around. The
