Gymnogyps californianus July 8, 1946 Nr. Cholame, Cali at 10:06 the 5 were 500' above me in a small group, circling & rising & drifting down-wind. At 10:08 they headed S. about 500' above the slopea, in an irregular planar box column. They circled together again about 1 mile S. of me over the W. slopes, & a sited (near-adult) passed SW about 300' above me - this was then circled independently of the 5. The 5 soared 500' over me again, then 1/2 mile E. where all 6 circled & rose, Sans multires, in a small group (10:19), now apparently again gaining altitude again. Apparently a first visit to remains of previous day's feeding is common with these birds. 10:22, they scattered for about 1 1/2 miles N.+S. near me, the N. over probably about over the white rabbit, still at 500' altitude. Then more scattered, 2 being about 2 miles S. of me, circling - a buteon butes-type hawk dove 100' at me from above, the raven twisting & diving away. - and furthest N. about 2 1/2 miles away over the main cattle wallow. 10:32, 3 circled about 1000' over the rabbit vicinity; & 2 were about 2 miles S. of me, circling & rising, as if going to hunt to S., but only at 500' other altitude (10:36). At 10:40 these 2 circling further S., about on varied route to Shaleville area. The 3 worked higher & to SE about 2 miles NE of Cholame Rocks, as if also off on a long journey. A turkey culture fed on the calf again. at
