Gymnogyps californianus June 4, 1946 Hopper Basin, Calif. one immature about 1/2 mile N. of the foot of Rock Ridge - it circled down, feet down, & disappeared behind same ridge where adult disappeared earlier. Saw no more condors by 4:45 so left the lookout. At 4:53, when we were on road at lookout area, one ragged adult soared 300' above us. It soared back & forth in our vicinity and S. to Parking Place & Lone Oak vicinity occasionally then broke over us, & at 5:16 headed E. into Hopper Basin. The breeze was fair from S.W., & this bird tucked into the wind, circled & rose, or glided parallel to Rim with ease. Occasionally it gave 1 or 2 wing dips & lost altitude. Mrs. Reynolds shot movies of this bird. It had a gap in primaries of one side (about ±3 missing), a notch in inner secondary area of same side, #7-9 primaries of other side apparently a little shot, & a general raggedness. Feet were down occasionally - perhaps point desired to alight in trees at head of Parking Canyon but we disturbed it. We drove on. From near Old Cabin could spot none in Big Cave area. Returned to camp at head of Hopper Canyon. June 5, 1946 The Reynolds' party left at 9 a.m. I started from road on the Whiteacre Pk. trail. Arrived at trail summit at 10 a.m. Sky 8/10 cirro-stratus; light S.W. breeze commenced at 10 a.m. At 10:03 I saw
