Gymnogyps californianus June 25, 1946 Nr. Cholame, Calif. the 8 in a tight milling group about 400' over calf sarcass, the highest an immature. The groups broke up, 4 at 9:33 there were about 2 miles S. of calf & 4 at 500' about 1/2 mile S. of it. Apparently they are not satisfied with the old carcass & are looking for something better 9:46, 2 over S. end of Flat, 1 about 4 miles N. of it, 4 1 or 2 between. None seen yesterday or today over the E. hills of the Flat except on route to Castle Mtn. about 3 miles N. of Cholame Rocks. 10:10, 2 adults & 1 imm. circled about 1 mile S. of calf carcass at 400' after having circled over the carcass. There circled over S. end of Cholame Flats & rose, then glided over the highest hill on E. side of the Bitterwater, again circled & rose, & headed S. - probably going to Ad Grants, Dan thought. The Annette Lookout is a few miles in that direction, Dan said. There were 3 or 4 buzzards on the calf carcass - apparently all the condors had gone S.. We left them & drove up the Bitterwater & to Annette Lookout. The lookout, a rather dumb man named Hughes (sp?), said he had heard of condors & had then pointed out to him in the distance about 3 years ago but had seen none at the lookout this year. The view of Castle Mtn. & McCheney Mtn.
