Gymnogyps californianus June 24, 1976 Nr. Cholame, Calif. spot & apparently drank judging from head movements. Two crows + 2+ vultures + 2+ ravens at carcass, saw standing near (12:05). The other three walked & hopped, flapping, to W. further, + spread 50± apart. Some cattle seems to be close to the crows - almost touching them, & watching them. 12:07, one of watering birds took off & flew over the carcass, low, flushing 4 vultures from carcass & causing the two (both min.) left at carcass to raise heads. This bird landed 100± yds. S. of carcass. The two min. took off & landed 100± yds. E. of carcass. 12:13, the mine. walked toward water hole, & I saw 3 there, none at carcass (no vultures). 12:14, 4 took off & circled about over carcass & 1 min. still at water. The 12:17, I saw 6 raven, circling above horizon in carcass area. 12:20, 3 vultures at carcass, no crows seen on ground. 12:25, Two slightly singly near the water hole, & I saw 2 others already on ground there. One went harder flew again & landed 50± yds. N. of others! (12:28, 5 on-ground among cattle, within 100±). 12:29, at least 4 of these took off and at least 5 circling together over horizon at 12:30 & at 12:35. Then two descended & sighted 50± from carcass at 12:37 - about 1 minute later they flopped to 200± yds. W. E. of carcass where another was already on ground, about 50 yds. from cattle & apparently not at water.
