Gymnogyps californianus
June 29, 1946
about 3/4 mile E. of the lookout + see a
young condor on a ledge a short way
down the cliff. The point was lower to W. of
the highest farthest bluff to E. of the look-
out. Tegan shot a coyote there + the lookouts
asked if he was shooting their pet cards.
Tegan seemed fairly reliable but inclined
to be boastful. Apparently he had killed
several hundred deer, outlaws, & horses
for various State jobs. This part of Santa
Barbara county was about as far south
as he worked (to Camarillo area). He
said Charlie Tant was after lions in the
Santa Ynez range with his dogs now &
had gotten several lions this year already.
The condor next area was near where Mrs.
Al Williamson reported a young condor in
1939 or 1940 — so probably something to
it.
