Falls Canyon, Calif.
flat ledge about 15' E.W. of boulders - more than
on my last visit - and one small condor foot-
print was in the pool. No whitework at pool edge.
Pool still partly sandy bottomed & shallow so
apparently favorable for condor bathing still.
I saw no condors in trees in Falls Canyon tho I
searched much. About 9 a.m., - light breeze, clear
sky, warm - I started back via Falls Canyon.
Arrived at Dead Oaker at 10:45 & Big Pines at 11:30. Left
here at 12:00 & hiked slowly toward Big Pine Lookout.
At 2:14 I saw one adult descend, tacking into the
fair S. wind, feet down, wings flipped, near the
bluffs in first S.-facing canyon W. of Court point
in the trail (about 1 1/2 miles S.-line from the lookout).
The descent area was hidden from my view. I
continued on to the lookout. They had seen
no condors all day. Soon a State trapper
named Tegan arrived. His headquarters was
at Bluff Camp & he was primarily trapping
coyotes. He said that about 5 years ago,
in the fall, he had thrown all his bobcat
& coyote carcasses over the cliff at
one point & that eventually up to 26
condors came. He said also that three
years ago two women were on the
lookout, & they used to walk to a point
