Gymnogyps californianus
June 10, 1946 Santa Barbara, Calif.
into the Aquaw Flats area. This was late in
May, 1943. One calf Storer's blind was of
green brush, made to look like a brush, & lined
with dark cloth - even the lens was covered.
This was in the big meadow just W. of Whitacre Pl.
They camped at Aquaw Flat & hiked up to blind
daily. One calf was put out & watched, but
flies & coyotes got it in time. A second was
put out about June 5. Storer had been in the
blind several hours & had seen no carders; he

carder came to the carcass. The third day, none.
The third calf, about a 90 pounder, was put
out about June 10.

were "very shy." This last 90 calf was killed
the morning the carders fed on it. They pecked
