Gymnogyps californianus June 17, 1946 Nr. Squaw Flat, Calif. lay 4'; thus: perch edge The rocks at cave much whitewash in sunshine at 2 p.m. This cave opens to W. or W.-facing cliff. It could probably be climbed into from cliff top without aid of a rope. 2:23, an adult soared S. low over the nest, then to N.4 landed on the lower perch point about 15' S of nest. At 2:26 it flapped & scrambled up the rocks to the 10'+ higher point (perching shelf). Then at 2:27 it walked atop the boulder at S. side of nest. Then paused, then walked down this slanting whitewashed rock (diagrammed above) and hopped down to nest entrance. Then it paused, facing in, at 2:29 walked in out of my sight. 2:32½, the adult stood at cave entrance, look- ing out. 2:33, turned around & faced in; in shade now favored shoulders. About 2:30 I saw one other adult soaring close to Roo the Rim above 4/3 nest. Adult preened tail, wings, back (2:40). 2:43, the adult disappeared - in or off? 3:01, the adult again stood on "door" door, facing in, half in sun light. Then off at 3:02 as another condor soar- ed 100'+ over nest. Both soared with feet down- the one leaving nest was apparently "A"; its crop seemed greatly distended.
