Gymnogyps californianus June 19, 1946 Hopper Canyon, G.I.F. pool & perched on the rock slope to dry themselves - intervening brush prevented walking. This lower pool was about 1/3 sandy bottom of about 6" or less depth. There were about 15 splatches of whitewash near lowest pool, 6 near center pool, 4 12 near top pool. The most whitewashed point was a knob about 20's. 4 6' above center pool - apparently a perch point. All pools allowed a clear takeoff down the canyon. Several water strokes inhabited the pools. Lowest pooled 2 or 3 feathers which seemed to be crows (1 secondary, 2 small). I probed the falls area. Fair 5A breeze. About 1 p.m. two adults, 1 with feet down, circled 100+ ' above me at the falls. I proceeded toward Cove Point. Shortly afterwards I saw at least 3, possibly 5, soaring low over Arundell Ridge as if to land there, but at 1:30 from North Slope I could see none there. The possible nest cave at East Hope- per Cliffs still well whitewashed - It still appears a likely nesting spot. At 1:50 I saw 1 adult stop Flat Ps. It was still there at 2:30 when I was at North Point. At 2:55 one adult soared over me near North Ridge. About 3:15 I reached road & drove to camp. A very worn day it appears. Drove to Parking Place & saw from there an adult in Near Koost Tree, on min. in dead tree below Big Meadow, 4 another min. stop a stub about 100 yds. from where the min. was perched. most of last 2 days - the
