Gymnogyps californianus June 14, 1946 Nr. Whiteacre Pk., Calif. in shade there. 8:45, a second adult landed, on the lower ledge, 430' see. Later it climbed to the other bird. I saw now that the first to land there was "Puffy Cheeks", the second doubtless the one I had watched on the tree. The two stood together, 41 nibbled the other's head. Call "Puffy Cheeks Cheeks" "A", the other "B". 8:50, both standing quietly in shade, nearly facing, 4 within touching distance. "A" probably came from a roost tree out of my right while "B" was hidden in canyon. 8:53, "B" crouched flat at cliff edge alongside of "A", the latter standing, both facing in. This perch ledge was about 6' wide at most 4' of smooth tan csandstone. 8:55, "A" was gone—in the nest I sup- pose. 8:57, an adult soared 100' above the rim near me. Breeze less than border—light from 5. now, sometimes calm. 8:59, 2 adults soared near Whiteacre Pk.. At 9:19, "B" stood up, still in shade. 9:28, "A" left the nest, soared out over Deer Meadow, 4 began to circle & rise. 9:29½, "B" left the ledge & joined "A". By feathers missing, "A" definitely identified as "Puffy Cheeks". Breeze light from 5.— very light. They did not rise over the rim so prob- ably went westward. I started back toward Napa per Canyon. At 10:38, near head of the canyon, I saw 4 adults 200' over the rim near me, then 7
