June 3, 1946 Hopper Basin, Calif.
Drove to Hopper Rim with Dr. & Mrs. Eric Reynolds, trail Reynolds, & Betty Davenport. We arrived at Parking Place at 12:35. Sky clear, air warm, fair breeze. We saw no condors in the nearby trees so continued on to White Paint. Lunches at my camp there, then drove to head of troter trail & hiked down trail. Mrs. Reynolds was anxious to get some photos of condors. She stayed on the troter trail while Dr. Reynolds & daughter & I hiked down to Condor Falls. Water was running there (not at Big Cove Falls) and the pools were full & clean, but no whitewash or condor feathers were found. We found one turkey vulture primary in the top pool however. At 3:55 we saw one adult condor land in a dead P.S. on N. side of Arm Bell Ridge about 1/4 mile E. of #2 nest. It stood facing SE about 30' from top of a 70+ dead P.S. and was still there at 4:05.
