Gymnogyps californianus June 13, 1946 Hopper Canyon, Calif. Another swm. climbed atop a rock between the brush & cliff & sunned back. One, soaring, landed 20' from top brink in shade; about 2 minutes later it soared down canyon. One runner kept wings spread until sunset shadow was over its head. 5:30 I could spot now at Cudn Falls & Sundell Ridge; one in pothole over Big Cave areas. One in Near Roast Trees, one adult was in top tree & 2 min (1 min. ?) in sep- -arate trees near foot of Big Meadow; adult 5. of foot of meadow 4 min. SE of it were as before, so 3 visible perched near Big Meadow. Then I visited the site of the feeding. I saw 2 ad- ults in Near Roast Tree at 5:50 as I passed, & an crin. in a tree 200' yds. down the slope from them. At the stake where calf was I found an trampled scuffed area about 12' in diameter, quite conspicuous, the stakes being at 5. edge (and 20' from tree). I found 4 unbroken ribs, 3 un- braken vertebrae, 4-3 leaf sheaths in the beaten area. Also perhaps 30 scraps of skin with hair on, up to 4" long, numerous tufts of hair, one primary, 2 back feathers, 6+ smaller feathers, 4-20' pieces of dam. The bones were as clean as if cooked & the meat color but of bloody color. The carcass had been pulled out of my wire stake more-stake still intact firm. The jogged trail
