Gymnogyps californianus June 13/1946 Hopper Canyon, Calif. took off with 6 flops, crops bulging greatly. 2a3 landed near the sliding remains - about 10 cords at it or logging a few feet behind. My vision ob- scured by tree again; the calf 200' downhill now. Adult left a nearly tie & landed near the remains. One left the remains (1:45). 1:50, two adults scrambled down the slope, fighting or after some choice moral, then took off. The main slate appar- ently stopped in rocky ground 200' below orig- inal spot; - an occasional cedar part visible above grass there (adults mainly). 1:55, I took off from there. An adult landed, then off as an- other adult (or ground) reached after it with bill. One flew 50' downhill & landed - we already there rushed it; the flin landed 10t' further or but was again driven into air (per- haps part of carcass there). 1:59, I saw 3 in the gully 80' downhill from where main body apparently lay, & at least 4 lay upper part (at least 1 mmn.). 2:02, 3 flew from upper group to lower. They each landed downhill giving 5 backing flops, legs hanging down & head & neck thrust forward. Apparently no more act- ivity at upper spot - lower spot about 150 yds. downhill from original spot. I saw me fly at another there - both took off & the shore
