Gymnogyps californianus June 13/1946 Hopper Canyon, Calif. least 4 adults). 12:25, one adult tugged a few times at carcass, then stood quietly. 12:27, one alighted 30-50' uphill from carcass. The bird landed by dropping nearly straight down, wings locking - a hop or step or two sometime taken just after striking ground (not a decelerating run). 12:30, at least 7 near bait - 3 turkey vultures landed near it. One min. (3'yr.), crouched on heels, grabbed with bill & took 19 quite regularly-spaced tugs (about 4-5/sec. per tug) before letting go & raising head. 12:33, 10 apparently on ground near carcass now. One adult leap frogged a cactus or 2, & another bounced away with a high jump 12:37- at least 12 within 15' of bait, about 8 adults, & not over 2-3 tugging occasionally, the other standing about, occasionally nipping each other. 12:41, at least 16 within 10' of bait, me or more feeding nearly continually. One tugged upper hind leg again - several even tugs, then 5 or 6 rapid jerks. 12:45, 8mi Near Road Trees & at least 14 around bait (22 ort). 12:50-15 at bait still; one stood on body & tugged upward with several jerks, & another tugged at upper hind leg. Carcass practically obscured by 13 crows, the other 2 being 30' downhill (they scrambled
