Midway Atoll
Aug 18
Eastern Island — Sooty Tern — landed
3200 nestling from 8:15 PM through 6:15 AM,
a period of 10 hours. 1900 of these were
in colony #3 at the south end of the island.
The next, 1300, were in colony #2 on the
northland of the island near the admiralate
building.
Other — one Bristle-thighed Curlew was
observed on the southwest point of the island.
There also seems to be a good population
of Christmas Island Shearwaters in the
interior of the island. A few of the
Saysan Albatrosses are trying to fly.

Eastern Island — Sooty Tern — finished
finding the remaining 700 #3's tonight.
All were on nestlings. The last half hour
of my stay was used trying to capture
banded birds for returns. Four returns
were taken, however two other banded
birds were observed, but could not be
captured. A total of 8 band returns
have been made on this species since my
arrival last Friday
