Festuca — Common in woods at Summit (850 ft). July 24. To Tracadigash Rvr. Sella on Gavel (red sand stone conglomerate). Stop in edge of Large Cedar Swamp — Orchis arundinacea fruiting abundantly, all the many rootstocks develop under the leaf, i.e. point in same direction. Epidendrum palustre & oliganthum — Listera cordata, Hab., Oletnata, Smooth Kalman, Carex gynocrates etc. An Eriophorum near palustrachyon but very slender small few-flowered. Through burn now covered with raspberries, Fine feast. Then up stiff rocky slope through White Birch forest. Canibou trails & Droppings everywhere, Occasional bear-signs. Slope a dense Thistle of Clematis verticillaris in splendid fruit. Stiff hard turf over loose sharp clay- rock. Carex Backii abund. from 1100 ft to Summit, which Collins Anemis (corrected) makes 1930 ft. Cliffs under the Summit — cross 150—300 ft high, with Long dry Talus slope below — Place 29
