1895 larks lit in tall horse weeds & gave it to tail enders on rise missed. 2d, 1 on pear tree; 3d, feathers from 1 on apple in pump- kins along meadow pasture fence; 4th, in bets to E. of pumpkins, drop- ped a side shot with broken wing, sat dog on it as she failed to see it fall & she flushed a buck hare & I took him on jump & broke hind leg & dog brought him in alive & squeal- ing. Weed onion stew for a week. Was in fine condition. Bourguignons said I should have saved blood; body full of it. Poited 1 quail by owl oak & 2 more put at rear at one shot (6th. shot missed a lark overhead, 4th & 8th. quail just noted) Had 18 shells left & want 2 more. & Eac there & I wanted him to beat briars while waiting for him
