1895 only, exposed when bird swims. Saw a flock or two of "peeps" & a bottom current. No ducks etc. Tide fell rapidly. Had to haul boat over 30 ft. to big slough. Got 5 for 50¢ from a Dutchman He had 12 shot with muzzle-loader. Traded 1 of my "shot-n-head" for a good 1 to a hunter. Skinned all Sund Mon. & Tues. night. Took 4 minnow bodies to Mail- Board & he said (was Tues.) They wouldn't keep until Wed. night which would be when his brother would get them so I put them up & think the Dutchman had been saving them to sell as he told me they'd made $1.00. He had 17 that I selected 5 from. I had 8. Roos & partner (who was a man of 35? not Hoppes whom he knew he was going) had 14 & I think Roos did only the sculling. 1 of
