Bird & Shooting Notes 1893- Aug 5. About 75 curlew on marsh E of Broad Gauge track. Aug 6. Towhrr yowl oak briars Cal. & one Arizona cocks fighting. A. licked C. & flew up on oak after him & chirped & called. Seems they don't mate with ours & this one was crazy. Were some small young nearby. Think they belonged to Cal. Aug 7 heard these this p.m. also Aug 13, later on same day think I heard the same notes while at dinner. Aug 13. Large flock of those white (Redback Sandpipers) bird snips off Watterreed. Some have in orchard bets for quite a while. (Havn't seen them for a week.) Rabbits plentiful from tennis to quail bowlbrigs. My dogs coming about now. Aug 21 In sequence to "Aug 6" saw him on ground under Rhodes apples. Has been around house lately & calls incessantly.
