July 8th.
At about 8:30 A.M. Archie appeared somewhat excited, would not
take food, wanted to get out of the cage and continually peered off
in the distance. This was taken to mean that perhaps Rhody had been
at the cage, taken some notice of the youngsters, and was then some-
where about.
About 9 A.M. Rhody was in the outer compartment looking at the
young birds. The cage is arranged as per sketch plan below:

The full lines represent wooden walls and partitions, the dotted:
"chicken wire" of hexagonal mesh.
The young birds were in cage B with the door closed. Rhody
was in cage C sitting on rock 2 watching them intently, saucer-
eyed, with an expression of astonishment. Archie was running up
and down the wire separating the two cages, apparently trying to
get out to join Rhody. Terry sat on rock 3 looking bored. Rhody
had his eye-patch colors fully displayed, but his crest not raised.
A had his crest raised. R would make an occasional feint at A.
This kept up for about a half hour. I then closed the door leading
