853 Dec.10th. The usual early song; Brownie staying home all day. Rhody behaving according to form. Dec. 11th. Morning song first heard about 7:30, lasting but a short time. It seems to me that the purpose of the early song at this time of year is to establish contact with other thrashers, primarily with Nova. B stayed home all day and could be heard singing sub-song at almost any time. He seems to be able to summon Nova whenever he cares to; although I believe there are times, especially when she is abroad, twhen she will not come and he must go to her if he wants her company. Dec. 12th. Away all day, having left the night before. Julio reports morning song, and Rhody not seen . He did not take his meat from the cage either. Dec. 13th. A rain from the south came up during the night and it rained without cessation all day and into the night. B was heard in the morning, but Rhody was not seen all day and did not come for his meat. Dec. 14th. Rain ceased during the night. Early song not heard and B not seen up to noon. Search for Rhody produced no results up to 11:30, at which time the sun came out. I then went to the western fence and called. Rhody came trotting out of the brush promptly with raised crest, looking dry and animated. He reached through the wire fence to take worms and meat from hand, then turned his back to the sun to let the rays soak in.
